ABFPC’s Emergency Food Working Group Update

The Emergency Food Working Group of the ABFPC is focused on supporting neighborhood-based emergency food preparedness solutions within Asheville and Buncombe County. To this end we support neighborhood leaders and organizers with access to information and resources for planning and infrastructure development to increase food security within their communities.

Through a contract with the City of Asheville and support from other funders we’re currently working with the Shiloh, East End, Southside, and Haw Creek communities to develop neighborhood emergency planning efforts and information distribution to residents, as well as the construction and installation of Outdoor Food Pantries in Shiloh, East End, and Deaverview so far. We link this work back to county-wide efforts through monthly participation in Buncombe County-led COAD meetings (Community Organizations Activated in Disasters) and Buncombe County Food Work Group meetings.
